Helping U.S. troops have a happy holiday season

When Cameron Wright, MD, of MGH Thoracic Surgery, volunteered to serve with the Army in Iraq in November, his colleagues back home at the MGH wanted to honor both Wright and the brave men and women serving alongside him. The Ellison 19 and Thoracic Surgery administrative staff learned that hospitalized soldiers have few distractions to pass the time and often enjoy watching movies on portable DVD players, which wear out every few months from repeated use. The entire staff — led by project organizers Anne Gilson, RN; Bonnie Prall, RN; and John Reilly, RN — pitched in to buy not only 10 new DVD players, but also a number of favorite movies and other treats to be included in care packages for the troops.
